Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
Cuba's premier genetic engineering and biotechnology center — developer of Heberprot-P and a broad portfolio of innovative recombinant biopharmaceuticals.
A Center of Healing & Excellence
The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), founded in 1986, is the cornerstone of Cuba's biotechnology sector and one of the most productive biotech institutes in the developing world. CIGB specializes in recombinant protein production, vaccine development, and growth-factor therapy. Its best-known innovation, Heberprot-P, has transformed the treatment of complex diabetic foot ulcers and is registered in more than 26 countries. CIGB's research and production span oncology, infectious disease, gastroenterology, and regenerative medicine, with a fully integrated pipeline from genetic engineering through GMP manufacturing to clinical application. International patients access CIGB therapies through coordinated programs with SMC Salud.
