Through this partnership, groundbreaking Cuban immunotherapy research has been introduced into U.S. clinical research programs. One of the most promising innovations resulting from this cooperation is CIMAvax‑EGF, a therapeutic vaccine designed to treat lung cancer by targeting the epidermal growth factor (EGF) — a protein that plays a critical role in the growth and survival of cancer cells.
Unlike conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation, CIMAvax works by stimulating the body’s immune system to produce antibodies that neutralize EGF. By blocking this growth signal, the therapy effectively deprives cancer cells of the mechanism they require to multiply and spread. As a result, tumor progression may slow significantly, helping patients achieve long-term tumor stabilization and improved quality of life.
Clinical data from international studies indicate that more than 5,000 lung cancer patients have already been treated with this innovative immunotherapy. Research findings suggest encouraging outcomes, including extended survival rates, improved disease management, and enhanced patient well-being.
