Diagnosis and Wound Assessment
Diagnosis of diabetic foot ulcers involves comprehensive wound assessment including size, depth, location, infection status, and tissue characteristics. The Wagner classification system (grades 0–5) or University of Texas classification is used to grade ulcer severity and guide treatment decisions.
Vascular evaluation is critical — this includes Doppler ultrasound, ankle-brachial index (ABI), and possibly angiography to assess blood flow. Neurological assessment determines the presence and extent of peripheral neuropathy. Blood glucose monitoring and HbA1c testing assess glycemic control. Imaging (X-ray, MRI) may be used if osteomyelitis (bone infection) is suspected.
Cuban specialists perform a thorough assessment to determine if Heberprot-P® is appropriate, including wound classification, vascular status, infection status, and glycemic control.
